  16. I'm trying to do build a system with as few limitations and as much 
  17. functionality as I can for the least investment.

  19. Here is what I have so far:

  21. A1200 w/M1230XA 030/50/50 w/8 megs RAM (2chip)
  22. -I'll probably double the fastram and use VMM for any bleedover requirements.
  23. Maxtor 340mb IDE
  24. SCSI+ interface (SCSI drive planned and also CD ROM eventually)
  25. LW 3.5 standalone

  27. As you can see, a conspicuous absence here is any way to output to tape.

  29. I seem to have a few options here.

  31. 1) DCTV output
  32.  
  33.     I have never seen DCTV output, but I find it extremely hard to 
  34. believe that something with only a few bitplanes could even look as good 
  35. as a HAM8 image.  Plus, since it is composite, It will fuzz out a lot.

  37.     The benefit here is that this is the cheapest method since I can 
  38. use any old VCR and playback direct from disk in realtime.

  40. 2) HAM8 output
  41.  
  42.     I would PREFER to do HAM8 interlaced NTSC output.  I would render 
  43. to IFF24 and use some programto convert to HAM8 because LW doesn't do a 
  44. very good direct HAM8 output.  The problem here is that there is no way 
  45. to play back HAM8 at 30fps so I'd need a stillframe VCR which means 
  46. >$1,000 not to mention VCR controlling software, most of which runs at 
  47. around $500+.

  49. 3) iff24 output and farm off xfer

  51.     Some places MUST offer video transfer services of some kind.  The 
  52. problem is I'd have to use a mass storage device that doesn't bankrupt 
  53. me.  So I am pretty hazy on how to go about this.

  60.     So right now the only economical choice I can think of is using a 
  61. DCTV.  So can anyone give me an idea of what it would look like?  I could 
  62. still go to HAM8 or Jpeg for stills.  And could someone explain the 
  63. process of recording via DCTV?  For instance, if you set playback at 
  64. 30fps, how does it sync up with the videotape, or does it?  If I use a 
  65. S-VHS deck, would I be able to get over 400 lines vertical rez?
